CHESS MATCH.
DUNEDIJv v. OAMARU. Tho chess match by telegraph between tho Dunedin and Oamaru Chess Ciubs was resumed en Saturday night. At board 1 Mr D. L. Patterson (0.), in. trying to extricau-. his pinned rosk about the thirty-eighth move, kst the exchange and a knight, whereupon lie resigned to Air G. P. ljcdaV (D.). At board 2 Mr D. Forsyth (D.) harassed his opponent (Mr W. D. iiurns) on the queen's wing. The latter indiscreetly captured a proffered rook on the thirty-second move, which entailed the loss of his queen, and he resigned five moves later. At board 4 11. 'Mowbray (0.), in his sealed move, retired a knight, which gave his adversary (Mi 0. Balk) some freedom. A few moves later Mr Mowbray, in pressing his attack, overlooked an impending mate, and this enabled the Dunedin player to win a bishop. The game, being unfinished, is reserved for adjudication. At board 5 H. Lyders (D.) agreed to draw with E. F. Armstrong (0.), there being no material advantage on either side. At beard C the Oamaru player (Mr C. C. Banks) was said to be ill in bed, and unable to contest the game against his opponent, Mr G. D. Wright. A draw was agreed to. At board 7 Mr ,1 S. Myars (D.) offered his opponent (Dr A. I. Garland) a draw on (lie thirty-fourth move. The offer was declined, and tho game, being unfinished, is reserved lor adjudication. At board 8 H. Armstrong (D.) has two knights and five pawns as against K. Familton's rcok and thres pawns Tho advantage is with the Dunedin player! but this game also, being unfinished, is reserved for adjudication. At board 10 H Hamilton (0.) foolishly castled on the queen's side on his fourteenth move, which immediately his opponent (Mr J. Dunlcp) to pin the queen with a bishop. Mr I'aniilton resigned six moves later At board 11 Mr A. H, Uarclav (D.), playi,,„ against Mr E. T. Earl' (0.), inadvertently recorded the wrong move on his score-sheet An impossible move followed, and the penally being exacted the Dunedin . representative lost his queen. The game being unfinished is reserved for adjudication. At board 12 D. A. Smeaton (D.) is still minus a knight and bis adversary (Mr J. E. Broad) makes he most of the advantage. This game also King unfinished, is reserved for adjudication. The games at boards :t, 3, and 13 were won by Messrs Edwards, Marlow. and WoistenholmD respectively for Dunedin in txa nrst Saturday night's plav. The scores therefore stand: Diuwdiii, 6 wins, 2 drawsOamaru, 2 draws, G losses; five games reserved for adjudication, by Mr F. X. Kellinof Wellington, the present chess chaim>ion of Acw Zealand. The next fixture is a match by telegraph' against the Wellington Chess Ciub, which will be commenced next Saturday
