WIDE ; WORLD PICTURES. The life and wars of the, world's greatest military genius is the star film in the bright constellation which is drawing largo crowds to the Princess Theatre, and tho final touch to the hall mark of public approbation may be said to have been supplied by the children who on Saturday attended the'matinee in their hundreds. Tlie attendance at night was also large and applicative and indicated that this present scries of films is among tho biggest hits made by tho Wide-World Picture proprietary. Tho programme will be repeated io-niglit. . SKATING RINK. Skaters and spectators' attended the various sessions at the Alhambra Skating Rink on Saturday in large numbeis. The attractiveness of the rink is being well maintained, and for this week tho management announces two or three interesting events, the first of which is an egg-and-spoon race, fo be held to-morrow night. The rink will be open as usual today. MORNINGTOiNMUND CONCERT. The audience that assembled in the Early Settlers' Hall on Saturday evening, attracted by the concert given by tho Moniington Band and a number of amateur vocalists, was a delight to promoters and' performers alike. By reason of it the band's instrument fund will probably be largely augmented, and tho various items of. the entertainment wore received most flatteringly. Under Conductor E. Smith tho band played ''Kionzi," ■■ Sondon's ''Lead, Kindly Light," Sullivan's " Choristers," and a composition by Rimmer, in addition to the following marches:—" Pomp and Pageant," " Miner's Gala," and "On Guard." Tho following was tho programme:—Recitations by Mr S. 11. Osborn; sleight-of-hand by Mr V. S. Raymond; euphonium solo by Mr E. Smith; and songs by Mrs Samson an<l Misses Hall and R. Robertson, and Messrs Alex. Hall, It. S. Gawthorpe, A. Harrison, and W. H, Mackenzie; cornet solo,' Mr H. Dickinson. Mr J. F. Arnold, M.P., was chairman, and Miss Hartley and Mr Jamieson were accompanists. DUNEDIN ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY. Thc.Duncdin Orchestral Society's second concert of the season takes place on Wednesday "next at the. Garrison Hall. It being Mendelssohn's centenary, his works predominate. 'The programme opens with Ilk ''Wedding March," which is not often heard by a full orchestra. The., pianoforte concerto in G minor, with orchestral accompaniment, . is one .of Mendelssohn's most popular works, as it appeals to everyone. The soloist, will bo Mrs Blanche Levi. who. lias .a reputation for her artistic and scholarly performance; and as both soloist and-orchestra have, put special work into this item, it should be a musical treat not often heard. Tho programme also includes a selection from Wagner's *' Flying Dutchman."
