At the Supreme Court to-day, in the case of Joseph Hanimn, accused" of horsestealing, the prisoner was discharged, the judge stopping the case owing to the contradictory nature of the evidence of the principal witness, whom Ids Honor severely lectured for insobriety. N„rman M'Leod, convicted of horse-stealing was sentenced to two years. In tile charge against Edward Boniface, of burglary, the jury failed to agree, and were discharged. James Straker Jackson, convicted of assault, was sentenced to six months. James Garrctty was found guilty of theft from the'person on the steamer Manuka in April, 1908. This was his third trial. Sentence was deferred until to-morrow. William James Knight, on it charge of arson at Tolaga Bay, was discharged without the defencebeing called on. WANGANUI, March 5. The Supreme Court was occupied all day m hearing a case in which Charles Baker was charged with counselling another to comnlit a crime. A short time ago two men were caught in an attempt to break open the ErnnomV One had in his possession a letter which contained instructions as to the uso of gelignite in blowing up a safe. William Kennedy (Drummond) claimed £100 damages 'from Malcolm Bros. (Bayswater), for alleged breach of contract to buy land. The case was unfinished when the court rose.
