Mr G. W. Russell, M.P., believes that oneof the greatest curses of New Zealand towns'arise from Hie fact that children and young people are allowed by the parents to roam tho streets after nightfall. This expression of opinion was elicited at a meeting of Hie Board of Governors in answer to a statement by Mr L. 15. AYood that the juvenile sections of public libraries at Home were open in the evenings until 8 o'clock, and the suggestion that the same system should be inaugurated in the Christchurch Public library. (Per Usitbii Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCII, February 23. The amount collected lo date for the new children's ward of the Christchnrch Hospital totals £3770 13s 2d, and more is expected. ' On the question of the renumbering of private and business premises in the city being discussed in the City Council last night, the Mavor said thai there wore between 13,000 and 14.000 buildings in the city. The cost of affixing brass numerals was estimated at one shilling per building.
