CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. iFaou Our Own Correspondest.) CHR.ISTCHURCH, February 23. The' Canterbury Cricket Association discussed last evening the question of the rccngagenient of K. Humphreys, who was brought out from Home at the beginning of the season for tire purpose of coaching Christchurch cricketers. The secretary etatod that thero was a deficit of about £100 on the coach fund account Mr Reese said ho thought the association should go ahead and bring Humuhrevs out again. He had had a good influence on cricketers, both morally ami otherwise, and ho had done a very great d-al for the game. He did not think the AueklandCiinterburj- march would have been worth looking at from the public standpoint if ltclf and Hpmphroys were not playing. M. Thomson said that Humphreys could not give a definite answer as 10 his r-;-enga.;eiiienl..until ho got Home and raw the Kent authorities. He did not think it was necessary to give Hmnnhrern an answer straight away, but, of course, it would be more satisfactory to him if something definite was arrived at. Mr Reese- moved:-"That Humphreys l>s re-engaged at the same salary as last year." lie thought thai, the association would be able to raise sufficient money to re-engage Humphreys. Mr Caygill. in tupporling the resolution, said that Humphreys had done a good deal tor cricket this year, but the matter of die young players could not ba judged in pn? season. Mr RarJiaei moved as an jmeiidment: — "Thai the matter of the ro-encagomcnf. of Humphreys be held over till Hie amount of his salary for the present vear is sub scribed." i'heiitually this was carried,
