ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

WANGANUI, February 12.
A young man named Alexander Harper, 27 years of age, employed by Mr G. F. Moore, of Kaiwi, dropped dead this oven* ing. Tho cause _is supposed to bo heart failure. No particulars aro to hand.
WELLINGTON, February 12. A man named Massey was lulled through' a fall of stono at the railway quurry near l'encarrow Head to-day. Wm. Homewood, who was boarding at a house in Molesworth street, was found dead in his bedroom to-day under circumstances pointing to suicide. A quantity of headless matches was on tho floor, and in a cup in the room was some bluo sediment, supposod to be from dissolved match heads. Homewood had been out of work recently, and is said to havo boon depressed on the ovenmg preceding his death. INVERCARGILL February 12. A young man named M'Lean, 20 years of age, son of a settler at Tbornbury, was missed from his home at 8 o'clock on Thursday evening. Ho had been peculiar in his manner of late, but his parents attached no importance to bis disappearance. This morning, however, they searched along -tho bancs of tho river, whore they found his clothing, and his body was recovered in a hole near by in 10ft of water.

iARROWTOWN, February 12. A young man named Thomas Kennedy, employed as a shepherd on Coronet I'cafc Station, met ivitli a, somewhat serious accident yesterday. He was mustering at Advance Peak, Macctown, and in going- down a steep face lie missed his footing, and fell oyer a precipice. He sustained injuries 1# his ankles and back. He was conveyed to the Arrow Hospital, where ho ic progress- i ins «s favourably as can bo expected. Kennedy is a recent arrival from Sfcotland.
A middle-aged man named William Mason had the fingers of his right hand severely crushed in a, spouting machine at Messrs Christie's plumbing works rester<lay, 110 was convoyed to tlio hospital, but it is not yet known whether amputation of any oE the fingers will bo necesBary.
A boy, 15 years of ago, named Harold Hyatt, broko his leg in Forth street yesterday, and was taken to tlio Hospital, where 'ho is progressing favourably. . ft, appears that Wyatt and another lad were havmg some fun, and in getting through a (enco Vyatt slipped and broko his leg.
