AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

DISPUTE WITH THE GOVERNING BODY. (Feb United Pkess Association.) ' WELLINGTON, November 27. A meeting of the Wellington .Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. to-night discussed the refusal of the president of the central body at Christchurch to forward to the Australian Union for an opinion the dispute as to whether Wellington should be represented on the council. It was pointed out that the latter was improperly elected, that conclusion being arrived at by the president arid two vice-presidents of the Wellington' Centre. The annual meeting had been attended by only two members of the- new council, and had lapsed. There was, therefore, no properly constituted controlling body in existence. • xl motion was proposed as follows— "That the executive officers of the N;Z.A.A.A. having failed lo carry out the rules governing the election of councillors, or having refused to allow properly nominated and eligible members to go to the poll as required by the association's rules, thereby creating a position in which the N.Z.A.A.A. is left without a legallyconstituted governing body to control amateur athletics throughout the Dominion; the delegates-- constituting tho Various clubs affiliated to each centre; of the N.Z.A.A.A, be invited forthwith to appoint three delegates to attend a conference'at a mutually agreed on place at an early date to consider the position and arrange for the constitution of a council in accordance with the rules of the N.Z.A.A.A., and that the secretary the Wellington Centre be instructed immediately" to notify other centres of the views of the centre, and to invite their co-operation in the direction indicated in this motion." An amendment to secede from the N.Z.A.A.A. and to establish a new coun : cil, with its headquarters in Wellington, was withdrawn after it had been pointed out that the Wellington Centre could not secede from anything that did not exist. Hostility was also shown lo the amendment on the grounds that it might be construed to mean that the Wellington Centre wished, to transfer the headquarters of the council ivdm Christchurch to this city. The resolution was carried unanimously", j
