Bclcher, J. T. Mackerrae, D. A. Do Maus, J. Watson, W. Wilkinson, (i. B. Bullock, anc E. I l '. Duthio. FINANCE. Tlio bank book, laid oirtho table, showev a credit balance of £9509 13s lid. CORRESrONDEKCB. The Town Clerk, City Corporation, intimated that the refuse tip near .Morgan's Baths had been filled up, and asked if the board would permit the depositing of refute on some portion of the foreshow until other arrangements were made -by the council.—lt was pointed out that it was not desirable that tho reclaiming of tho foreshore should 1)9 made with old tins and rubbish.—Mr Watson said thnt the filling in of the forcshoro at Pelichei Bajr was being dono with fSEhy and disagrccabls material.—The letter was referred to the Works Committee. Messrs T. E, Shiol and Co. wrote stating that recently, by the Ulimaroa, from Sydney, 600 cases of apples were consigned to them. This fruit ivas condemned bv the Department of Agriculture on arrival here, and was reshipped to Sydney. They therefore asked for a rebate of anv charge mado for wharfage, as their clients would be exceedingly heavy losers through the fruitfailing to puss the department. A similar request was received in rcspect of a further shipment by tho Mahcno.—Tho secretary of t.hs! board had replied i that no rebate could be allowed, as these cases were landed and stored in tlio board's sheds. They were therefore liable to dues, ami consignees werd'j responsible for same.— Referred to Finance Committee to report,7 The Town Clerk, Port Chalmers, wrote conveying a resolution of bis council by which the corporation is prepared to carry out the agreement entered into by Cr Tait with the board's representative in tho matter of tho passage through Parliament of the Otago Dock Trust Merger Bill. —Received and acknowledged. Thfi Town Clerk, City Corporation, wrote drawing, attention to the necessity .for » convenience near the wharf.—Referred the. Works Committee for report. : REPORTS. Mr G. B. Bullock moved .the adoption . of the Works Committee's report, whioh, inter alia, recommended that a largo punt . ha obtained for the board's works at a cost of £20ti, and that accounts totalling, £6324 18s 7d be passed, for payment. Mr Bullock stated that the reclamation of the board's endowments was proceeding'~apace. By raising the embankments in th<r neighbourhood of .the Cement Works and railway station, Pelichet Bay, and by the construction .of-, fc spillway 70ft,long, qhnost, complete settlement of the fine sediment pumped-by the Vulcan had been obtained,! - and the water discharged over tho spill-' way was perfectly clear. As spon as the storm-water drain, which was now under construction by the Drainage Board, was completed, which would probably bo ir five months' time, the frontages to Stuartstreet and Ward street could be filled in rapidly, and such frontages rendered available for leasing. Jetty street had had' a substantial-retaining wall in ferro-concrete extended along the back, and made secure with steel rails into the solid. This' improvement, along with the redecking now in progress, would'.enable the j heaviest traffic to go over, it. The large main pile 3 for the wharf along Kitchener, street could be 6sen in process of manufacture along the. frontage at French street, and the engineer anticipated making a, start to ~ drive them in . three months' time, when those first made should bo sufficiently matured. The contractors for the piles for Rattray, street, he was sorry to say, were behind time in 'delivery, which tho ' board was anxiously awaiting, every tiling now being in a- state of readiness for push- ' ing on the work.—Mr' Watson commented on the amount of money which the Works Committee was expending. Last month it was £7000, and this, month it was £5000; . The re-port was.-adopted. '. The Financo Committee's report' was adopted, on the motion of Mr Ross. V The Reserves Committee reportecj ,iii, the . matter of the lease Dock Tryst to .U.S.B. , Co. of a jetty' site at Port Chalmers. t,hiit it be pointed out to the Dock Trust' that tlio board Was not awaro of any power to grant, a lease-for SO years. In the matter/ of . the request of G. Morgan for c'onsidaratjon on account of the reclamation! of sec 7 tions in Ward street, the engineer having reported that a, portion of the work , done was of advantage to the board, it was recommended that he be granted the 6uir of £50.^Mr°.Wilkinson moved the adoption of the report.—Mr E. 6.. Allen said he understood that in the Harbour Boards Act of 1878 a lease of'so years could be granted. Thisjotty site was going■ to wst - a lot of mqney, and it was not likely that anyone would be* a party to a short lease. They should assist the U.S.S. Co. 'in this matter.—Mr Wilkinson said a lease could ■ be granted with right of renewal. £hat J would get over the difliciiuy. The next meeting was fixed for December 17. ' ' • -
