The Times says that the chief points upon which an agreement was not reached were whether the head teachers should be permitted to give denominational instruction, the question of inclcaeed grants to those schools, contracting out, and tho right of denominations in future to select what schools were able to bo contracted out. The' Archbishop of Canterbury asks that all head teachers in all future council schools shall be free to volunteer to give denominational instruction. Mi- Runciimm (Minister of Education) is not at present authorised to concede this right to any head teachers. . The Tablet, commentinfr on the education compromise, declares" that all Roman Catholic children must 1* taught' the .Roma.tr Catholic Teligjoh in Roman Catholic schools by Roman Catholic teachers under Roman Catholic supervision. The Bishops of Worcester and St. Asaph have severely, rebuked Lord Halifax and Lord Hugh Cecil for issuing what was •equivalent to a pastoral letter to the .parochial clergy on the education question, describing ft as an unwarrantable intrusion on the bishops' prerogative.
