THE DAIRY REGULATIONS.
HON. MR M'NAB INTERVIEWED, (Peii United Phess Association-.) • CHRISTCHURCH, October 27. Chatting with a reporter on departmental matters, Mr jil'Nab complained that Mr Masscy charged the speaker with backing down on the new dairy regulations. He stated that it was never contemplated to enfovce these inside nf 12 months. Last Febmvy'tbc speaker explained thai to a. deputation of Hull dairymen. In the draft regulations which came down to the House the date of their coming into force was purposely leftblank. He denied that their operation had been postponed. There had been a tremendous amount of talk about the new regulations, and the necessity for a greater amount of cleanliness in the handling of milk had been brought to the foreground jin a truly remarkable manner. ' Tho 'speaker found on inquiry among the prodnco graders that dairy produce was now coining forward in a better condition than ever before. This they attributed solely to tho effect of a. thorough " spring cleaning." Public attention had been drawn to the importance of cleanliness, and had borno splendid fruit. The Minister estimated that- the financial benefit to tho country of the dirty man's byre being kcpl clean, in dairy product; alone would be £50,000 per annum'on the present output. There was also a reduction in the percentage of second grade produce. With the present skilled manufacture the only reason for second grade produce was dirty milk. There should be no second grade in the present marking, and even among the first grade producc the points could bo made appreciably higher if clean milk were supplied to the factories.
