Hearst claims that- his fresh batch of purchased .letters will set fine to more reputations of prominent, officials. The letters show that, Mr .T. I). Archbold (managinjg director of the Standard 1 Oil Tru?t) recommended judicial appointments, which had since -been made. The same person also sent Mi Klein, a Supremo Court judge of tlve' -Stale of Pennsylvania, wliem lie. was State Attorneygeneral, £3000, with a view to inducing him to "kill" a measure then before the State Legislature. Mr Elfin, replies denying that ha ever received money .improperly, or for influeneing impending legislation.
