. i> — ' A OULVERDEN CLAIM. . (Per United Pbe6s Association.) OHRISTCHURCH, August 3. The Compensation Court eat to-day to hear the claim of W. E. Hare against tlie Crown for £2100 compensation for the cancellation of his lease of land situated on the Culverden Estate. ■ The estate was .neeently acquired by the Government under the Land for Settlements Act, and the leases given by the previous owner were terrjnated. The claim for compensation was made under, " The Land for Settlements Act, 1900," and the procedure was under " The Publio Works Act, 1905." His Honor Mr Justice Denniston, Messrs W. H, Hargreaves (Crown) and W.--J. M. Hopkins (claimant) sat as assessors. The court unanimously awarded the claimant £1100, but loft the claimant the alternative of finding a purchaser within three months, tho Government to transfer to his nominee on tho terms which had'been mentioned. Tho Government should pay costs and assessors' fees (£5 5s each).
