WELLINGTON BAKERS' STRIKE
MEN HOPING FOR AMENDED LEGIB-' LATION. (Per United Phkbs Association.) WELLINGTON, August 2. Tho Bakers' Strike, Committee has decided to continue tho present policy of strike pay and picketing. "Tho men aro determined to leave the district rather thin accept tho present conditions, and ; many of them are doing so," remarked a member of the jjommitteo yesterday. Strike pay was again distributed yesterday afternoon. Funds aro coming in fairly well, and an additional £60 has been voted this week. Some of the strikors who aro wonking for men who signed the union agreement aro paying £1 a week, out of their wages for the support of tho striken. Tho men are said to have great hopes of legislation being introduced providing for an eight-hour day in the bakehouse, irrespective of Arbitration Court awards, and also daylight baking. It is quite probable that an amendment to securo theso boons will be moved during tho debate on tho Arbitration Bill. Tho police have been informed that a master bakor's premises were interfered with on Friday night, soino ferment beint? upset and water turned on into a trough by means of a hose. Tho proprietor heard noises in the bakehouso, :uid though he did not arrive in time to catch the intruder ho was able to minimko the damage.
