At a caucus of the Federal Labour party it was resolved that the Surplus Revenue Bill should provide appropriations for the payment of old-a.ge pensions at an early date. THE NEW ZEALAND ACT.' SOME PROVISIONS •(Per United Peess Association.) AUCKLAND, April 8. The Auckland branch of the Liberal arid Labour Federation to-night j carried a lOotion expressing the opinion that the OldAge Pension Act does not fulfil the func ; tions for which it was originally intended, and referring the whole question and its weaknesses to tho council for consideration and report. The particular provision of the act objected to was that which penalises pensioners by .depriving them of pensions for five years for drunkenness. The Hon. W. Beeham, M.L.O;, characterised this clause as infamous, and as a blot on the Statute book.
