Drunkenness.—A fine of 7s, or 24 hours' imprisonment, was imposed ■ upon a first offender.
Maintenance.—James Farrell, for whom Mr. A. it. Barclay appeared, was culled upon to show cause why ho had failed to obey on order of the court to contribute towards the support of his brother, the t sum of £i 16s being in ftrrear.—Sub-inspector Norwood stated that the matter came before Mr Widdowson, S.M., last month, and was. adjourned, to give defendant a chance to pay up; He therefore asked that' the case be adjourned until Tuesday so that defendant could make his explanation before the magistrate who had previously dealt with the matter, and this was agreed to. Thomas Huston (Bluffy was ordered to pay 5s per week towards tho maintenance of his mother.
Employment of Shop Assistants.—Dorothy Bernhardt, draper, Stuart strej&t, was charged •on two informations with a breach of the regulations governing the employment of shop assistants by employing 12 assistants after ' hours on the night of January 11.-Tho hearing of the. oharges was held river by consent to allow; of:the' attendance of Mr Wood, faotory inspector. -
