LAKE COUNTY MEETING. (From Our Own CoßßtesposuENT.) AUROWTOWX. December 14. The Lake County Jockey Ciub concluded a successful meeting to-day. The weather was line, but ail occasional gale made the dust somewhat unpleasant. The course was in goad order, and some exeolient racing was witnessed. The barrier was again used in starting, and some good starts were effected. The secretary (Ur Tobin) ;<r,d the officials worked well I'or the success of the meeting. The amount put through the machine was i' 1357, making a total of £2766 for the meeting. Results: —

WAKATIPU HACK WELTER, Of 20sws. Five furlongs. Mr Jus. Cowan's Lord Clutlia, by Legerity —Stock Flower, 9.2 (Wingfield) 1 Mr Ruthveu's Jliss Casket, 8.11 (liuthven) 2 These were the only starters. Both left the post together, and Miss Casket led till tho top ot the straight was reached, when Lord Clutlia made his run. A ruttling finish down the straight ended in a win for Lord Clutlia by half a .'ength.. Time, lmin Bsec. LAKE COUNTY CUP, Of uOsovs. One mile and a distance. Mr It. Green's Speculate, by Banner — Spec, 9.3 (W. Buddicomfcc) .. 1 Mr Ruthvcn's Casque, 8.12 (Lloyd) ~ 2 Mr Baird's Abusive, 8.4 (M'llrc-y) 3 Also.started: Jolly Friar 9.5. An excellent start was effected. For the first three furlongs Abusive, Casque, and Joliy Friar raccd lieck and neck, Speculate lying last. At the four-furlong post Jolly Friar tired, and Speculate drew on the leaders. Entering the straight he took command, and eventually won by a good length' from Casque. Time, lmin 551scc.

Aratinj led for the first quarter, when Lady Pet tcok command, and never left the issue in doubt. Whisper, trotting splendidly, beat Arutus in the straight for second place. Time, 4min 25sce.

An excellent start was effected, but Toncy crossed in front of Heirloom and Strathlillan, with the result that they were blocked, and Hypnotist got a big lead, which he maintained to the finish. A good race ensued for second place. Time, 52 l-ssec.
