The acceptance by the Government of a tender for the construction of tlio Arthur's Pass tunnel ■virtually marks the attainment of the object for which the .'Midland Railway Committee of tho Canterbury Chamber of Commerce and other bodies have been working for manj years. Mr H. Quane, who succeeded Mr Roper as chairman of the committee saino years ago, has 6ent the following telegram to tho Hon. Sir J. G. Ward:-" Sir Joseph Ward, Wellington.—On behalf of the Midland Railway Committee pleaso accept warmest tlianis for the acceptance of a tender- for the construction of Arthur's Pass tunnel. The announcement was received by all classee with Meat enthusiasm and gratification. (Signed) 'H. Quanb, chairman Midlands Railway Committee."
