THE APRIL DRINK RECORD.

Sir, —There is nothing' particularly novel about the April drink record—just the same old tide of indecency, violence, moral dognwlation, homo unhappiness, murder, and suicide. Year ; in, year out, tho modern Moloch thus l'dentlesely and ceaselessly crushes tho life out of "its victims, and it is largely the vote of these' poor hypnotised creatures who work and think for tho publican's profit alone, theso "slaves of tlio beor mtig" which keep tho traffic in existence. Tho worst of it is that many of those who only drink a little each day arc as truly hypnotised by the drink glamour as thoso who drink a great deal. All! they say. wo can Uke it or leave it alone, but' thay always elect to tnlto it, and each year their capacity to Icavo it alone becomes less. (Dunedin Papers Only.)

Total .. 138 If tho accomplishments .of tho trade each year wore only crowded into a week and the rest of the year left empty of roe ill to tho ehock to the public conscience would be such that those dear good people, tho "modoTates," would at last bo waked up to tho massacre of tho weaklings their provision for Hicir own moderate convenience causea.—l am, etc., Sandy M'Tocg.
