TRAM ACCIDENT AT WELLINGTON.

CAR FALLS OVER AN EMBANK. MEAT. A WOMAN KILLED. THREE MKN INJURED. (VSrt United Phess Association'.) WELLINGTON, May 3. A serious accident occurred oh tin Brooklyn section of the city tramways this ovening, resulting in the death of lira Bell, of Murchison, and the infliction of injuries on her husband (Mr Thomas Bolt), the motorman (John Itae), and tho conductor (Arthur Perkins). Tho Brooklyn lino leaves Upper Willis street at tho foot of Nairn, street, and proceeds over a sharp incline to tho suburban area on tho hilltop southward of tho city. Whilo descending this incline one of the biff new palace cars left tho track at a point near tho foot of the Nairn street plantation, and after travelling about 15 yawls, ill tho course of which tlie under carriago was ripped off, it toppled oter an embankment which, at this point, ie about sft in height. Mrs Bell was, it is supposed from the nature of her injuries, killed outright;] but it was over an hour before her Ixidy could bo taken from under the'car, whioh is of great weight, and could only be shifted by tho usft of powerful jacks. Her husband was slightly injured, and was removed to a neighbouring house. Rao and Perkins wero taken to tho h#spital suffering from cuts and contusions. Mr and Mrs Bell wero on a holiday, and were returning to their homo from Christchuroh and other places in the south. They, had taken' a trip in tho car to view tho city from Brooklyn heights. • For somo time after tho Brooklyn section was opened for traffic the City Council only had a permit to run what are known as box cars, tho lightest ears on tho city tracks, up this incline, and only 24 people wero allowod to rido each trip. The traffic, however, increased so much that tho Fublio Works Department lately, after making tests, gave a permit fof th 6 heavier cars to run on tho section. Tho palaco cars, one of which came to grief, broli carry 60 passengers.

How tho mishap occurred is not kiiftwn, but it is supposed that tho crtr ran away, from tho brakes.
