SETTLEMENT IN THE NORTH

WELLINGTON, April 24. Tho chairman of the Bank of New Zealand (Mr Harold Beauehamp) and Messrs Milne, Watson, and Quick (directors) have returned to Wellington from (t lour of tho North Island on business connected villi tho bank. Tho chief object of their visit was to inspect the unsold estates taken over by tho bank from the Assets Realisation Board with tho view of placing them on the market, with tho least pcssiblo delay. The di rectors found that, on tho whole tho propertios wore in excellent order .ind tho stock in first-class condition, and it is oxpect-ed that at the prices which the bank is prepared to quote tho estates will find ready sale. Mv Beauehamp stales that he and his colleagues lound business throughout the North Island in .1 satisfaotorv state. There is a healthy demand tor land in tho Waikato, and the progress 111 ado in that district of late owing to tho adoption of scicntißo farming methods is very marked. Tho partv paid a visit to 'To Kuiti in tho King Country, which is likely to lwivc a fine future. There is an immense quantity of Native land of good quality in tktt district, and it is ocriain, says Mr Beauehamp, that when tho titles have been ascertained and the land placed on tho market settlement will progress at a very satisfactory rate.
