Sill,—Having been refused permission to give evidence at the meeting of the D.J.C. re the above case, I could cravo spaec for a few lines on the subject. Wlien in Dunodin after the Invcrcargill races some' of mv friends informed r.tc that Scrap-iron Jack wns "dead'' for Black-friar three days prior to the race, and that it was common talk that I hacked tl\c latter liorse. No, Sir, I wish to dear my character against such unfounded accusations. I did not have any money on Maekfriar, and I will jive £25 io anyone who can prove, otherwise. Apparently someone has benefilod at my expense. }fv ,orders to the jockey were to win, but not to punish the horse, as ho was unwell at the time.—'l am, etc.. H. J. Sbari,?,. Invercargill, April 8.
