Smith, M.L.C., of Christchurch, is in Dunedin at present on business connected with the purchase of tho Cydcvalo Estate by a Chrislohurch syndicate. Mr N. Nakamnra, tlio Japanese journalist* who is louring tho wcrki in tho interests of tho commercial trado of his country, want south on Thursday evening to prosecute his inquiries. Ho returns to Dunedin to-da} - , and leaves to-morrow for Tasmania. A pleasing corcmony took placo at Wakari oil Wednesday evening, when Mr Harrison, tho retiring head master of the school, was presented with a handsome illuminated address. Mr Bunting, the chairman of tlio committee, in making the presentation, spoke in eulogistic tonfcs of Mr Harrison. He paid: "We feel that your retirement will deprive 113 of an ideal -schoolmaster, a good citizen, and an honourable-and courteous neighbour." Mr Bunting also spoke of tlio high etato of efficiency ol tho sohool during Mr Harrison's term of office, and the universal regret felt in tho district at his retirement. Mr Harrison has been in the service of 'tho Otago Education Beard for 30 years. At the Kensington crossing yesterday afternoon, Mcp=rs Walker and Csldow, who filled the positions of inspector of works and foreman carpenter respectively in connection with tho building c[ the new railway station at Dunedin, were met by the men who served unfor them, and were presented with tangiblo tokone of the estomi in which they were he'.d. There were about 50 employees present. Many of the men who were employed on tho new station building are still working under Messrs Walker and Caldow on t-lw duplication of the railway line. The presentations ware made by Mr R. Mitchell, who referred in complimentary tonus to tho m-annor in which tho recipients had carricd out their dirties, aud to the rwpct and admiration in which they were held by tho men under thorn. At the conclusion of his remarks Mr Mitchell prcseuted Mr Walker y/ith a maib'e clobl: and 'Mr'Caldow with a golcl albert, bosh presents being suitably inscribed. Mes;irs Walker and Caldow returned thanks in appropriate terms.
