■At Jast .night's meeting of tho City Council; Mr J. K. Warburlon, Auditor and Con-troller-gDnoral, returned tho balance shoot of tlio Dunedin Domain Board, which ho had oeriih'ed. Tho report of'the operations of tho board for the year ended December 31, 1906, was as follows:—' A fernery 42ft by 20ft was built near tho old one, filled with' rookwork and the ferns planted out. A hardy fernery was formed in a hollow at the cud of the fernery, and a .rockery for native celmisias, borders for rare 'shrub's, and a lily tank formed where the old jrreenhouso was. A new toolshec' was built, and a yard for carts, etc., fenced, off. A ladies' cloakroom was built, and a number, of new beds and borders trenoned and planked. Elderberry on the' hillside was cut-, ami openings in tho bush planted up with nativo shrubs. Proposed operations' for' ensuing year: Extension, of the rockery, £50; new beds and alteration of shrubbery border, £30; ,new p,tos, £50.; new greenhouse, £200; plant-in" up openings among nativo bush, £50;-now aviary, £20. General: Tho.Domain, or Botanio Gardens, is becoming more popular every year. The collections off various plants aro being added fo, and mi effort is beinsr made to make, tho oolkclion of native trees, shrubs. nlpince, ami ferns as complete as>possible, also to .label them nil with permanent labels. The idea is lo make tho Gardens both instructive and beautiful.
