CHRISTCffURCH, March 19. rJio biennial demonstration under tho auspices of the New Zealand Fire Brigades' Association opened on the Exhibition eporls pound this afternoon in anything but favourable weather. As a consequence the attendance was limiled almost, exclusively to member.? o[ visiting brigades, of whom, however, (hero was a full muster. Three events were run simultaneously during tlio day. The 'most attractive event was tho jioee, reel, flat, and ladder competition, which made heavy demands upon the nil-round ability of tho men taking' part. Tho work done was of such an excellent character that in very few instances were penalties for defects imposed.
