CLUTHA RIVER BOARD.
The Clulha flivcr Board mot on Friday, when tho position with respect to the oil launch built by Messrs Knowstubb Bros., of Port Chalmers, tor the river traffic was considered in committee. The bunch on her trial trip in Dunedm Harbour failed to attain the specified speed, and the space for passengers was also 1c33 than agreed upon. On resuming in open meeting it was resolved that a committee, be set up to obtain all information as to the loss the board and sustained through the failure of the contractors to carry out their contract, and that the secretary communicate with the contractors on the subject. On tho receipt of a •letter from Mr T. \V. Alien, chairman of the New Zealand Coal and.Oil Company, tho board considered at length the matter of opening up tho mouth of the .M'olyneux River at Coal Point. It was eventually resolved—" That the secretary write to the company asking what would bo the .draught of the boats it intended to use on the river; then, on receipt of that' information, write to Mr Leslie Reynolds, asking what it would cost to obtain from him a report showing tho simplest and most effective mode of deepening the bar and river channel (1) to enable these vessels to navigate, anil (2) to enable vessels of 20ft draught to navigate."
