SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS' CON» FEKENCE. A wcll-atlended conference of Sunday , 6chool teachers of (lie Clmrches of Christ in, Dunedin and suburbs was held in the Cltureli of Christ, North-East Valley, on Saturday afternoon and evening;. " Tho chair was occupied by Mr T. Arnold (superintendent of tlic North-East Valley School). and representatives were present from tho Dunedin, South Dunedin. Mornhigton, Koslyn, and North-East Valley Sunday Schools. After a short devotional service, Miss M, Lowe rend 1111 essay upon "Tho Sunday School in Eolation to the Church." In the course of the paper, she pointed out that, while the Church hud for its object, tho preaching of Iho Gospel in order to convince men that Jc6us was the Christ, and then to teach them all things for their further growth and success in the Christian life, the work of the Sunday school was' to impart knowledge to immature minds. Tho school, therefore, was the under-nurso of tho Church, and must be under the direction and control of the Church. After a numW of teachers had expressed their views on the subject, an adjournment was made for tea, which was provided by the , : North-East Valley teachers. i ' The conference was resumed at 6.30, when there was a somewhat attendance. A short musical programme wns given. ' Solos were sung by Misses 31. Alexander and Mario Davics, a duet was rendered by Miss Yates and Mr Booby, and Messrs H. Laing and T. Glass gave recitations. A paper on " Tho Responsibilities of Sunday School Teachers " was then read by Mr J. Hilliard. In this lie directed the atton- ■ tion of teachers to Scripture, which taught that thqso who brought many to righteousncss should shine bright as tho stars, and, I in emphasising the responsibility of tho teacher, advised then) to remember tho estimation of Viic value of one soul. If they would loaoh Christ effectually, ho said, . they must live Christ, for tho eyes, of scholars wore continually on teachers, both iin and out of school. Criticism of tho i essay then followed, the speakers giving valuable advico in addition to that given in I the paper. It was decided to bold.similar conferences quarterly, and South Dunedin was decided upon as the place tit which the next conference will fcc held, and the subjects of i essays for this conference wero onnonncod.
