BICYCLE STEALING IN CHRISTCHURCH.
(Faou Ora Own Correspondext.) CIIBISTCIIURCH, March 7. Hie bicycle stealing epidemic seems to have spread dangerously of late in Cbristchureli. The police state that they have had an average lately of from seven'■ to eight machines reported missing darlv from various parts of the town. Probably Hie owners are responsible to a degree for tho thief-making opportunity, and the police say Hint greater precautions should bo taken in regard io securing the machines under lock when left in the Street. However, a heavier penalty is also deemed to bo a very good euro in bad cases and an oxccjlont'moral deterrent to thu amateur thief. To-day three bicycles were brought to ■ the Police .Station from Sydenham, where they had been abandoned. A couple wore " fished " out of the river, and one was found on a gentleman's lawn. It had apparently been a good bicycle before j| was stolen, but when found it was almost a wreck from exposure, and the tyres, handle bars, and saddle were missing. A great many bicycles await claimants at the Police Station,
