AUCKLAND, February 25. Replying to a- protest against. Mr Fulton, the chief fibre expert, being allowed to goto St. Helena for one year, the Fin. R. M'Nab said that tho objection .to the introduction of flax to St. Helena was somewhat remarkable, as ho believed that tho whole island was about the size of Wellington Harbour. The industry could only bo on a small scale there, and all tho Diaohinery would have to be- got fj;om New Zealand. Commenting upon tho objection to take seeds and roots, ho observed that it would lake years to find out what varieties would be most enitable. It was at present merely an experiment by the Imperial Government. During the period of experiment New Zoaknd would bo developing and protecting tho industry.
