MEETING OF CREDITORS.

A meeting ot creditors ill the bankrupt estate ot Robert "Walker (ex-hotclkeeper), formerly of Gore and Lawrence, was held in the Official Assignee's Office yesterday before Mr Roberts, acting assignee. Creditors represented were the D.I.C. (Mr Moore), V. Haymau and Co., Southland Farmers' Cooperative Association, and MacDougall and Co.

Mr D. D. Macdonald appeared for bankrupt. Bankrupt's total liabilities were set down at £393 lis Gd. The principal unsecured creditors were:—A. E. Kemp, £98; Neill and Co. (Ltd.), £21 17s Gd; Mackerras and Hazlett (Dunedin), £21 7s Gd; Bulge ty and Co., £20; S. P. A9kin, £20; A. Cook (Lawrence), :£l4; Mackerras and Hazlett (Invercargill), £12 13s 6d; Moffat and Co., £20; Thomson and Co., £12; J. Reico (Riversdale), £12. Bankrupt's filed statement was to the effect that he was fanning at Gore till 1902. When the lease expired ho sold out, and with the proceeds and other cash (partly borrowed) bought the goodwill of tho Riversdale Hotel for about £400. For threfc years lie carried on with success, and then sold put for. £900, of which only about £150 was clear to' himself. For two years after he was cattle and horse dealing, but made nothing at all at it. Then he took over the Commercial Hotel. Lawrence. Tho ingoing was £1250, of which his friends assisted him to the extent of £GSO, tho balance being supplied by Messrs Speight and Co. and Messrs Lsme and Co., who had a mortgage over the lease and stock. The place never paid. Ultimately the landlord and' Mt Joel realised on the furniture, and bankrupt" had to leave without anything; Since then he had had no work. His wife had taken over the Silver Grid, but lib had no interest in it, Of his liabilities, £226 were incurred at Gore after selling out at Riversdale. There being no quorum present, the meeting was adjourned sine die.
