BIBLE SOCIETY'S NEW PREMISES.
No time has been lost in rebuilding the premises of the Now Zeajand Bible, Tract, and Book Society in Princes street. The fire which totally destroyed the old structure occurred on the Bth of November last, and it is very satisfactory to know that such was the energy displayed that the business is again being conducted on tlio old site, but in a new and handsome building admirably adapted 'in every way for the requirements of the trade. In general design, of course, the old plan has been followed, but all departures from it are in the nature of improvements which will be appreciated by the public. The windows have been rendered very attractive by the style ,o£ fittings adopted, these being in themselves artistic, and at the same time affording opportunity for effective display. Tlio floor of the shop is concrete, linoleum covered, and the space for the public has been materially increased by reason of tlio counters and show tables and cases being set nearer to the walls than formerly. Tho removal of tho accountant's office to tlio upstairs portion is' also a convenience, inasmuch as it throws more space into the shop proper. Tho counters and show stands and the shelving ore exquisitely polished. Particular attention lias been paid to the matter of lighting, which is supplied from a ridged glass roof through a large well. A well-graded stairway leads from the ground floor to the upstairs portion, where again splendid facilities aro given patrons to 6ec the stock. The painting of the walls in white, together with the roof lights, gives tho place a bright and pleasing appearance. At Ihe 6treeb end is tho accountant's office and also the board room. Both of these are comfortable and roomy apartments. In all departments the premises are thoroughly up to date, and reflect credit on tho society and its capable managing officers. The'heating is by means of the Welsbach kern system of gas radiators. Mr James Annand was the contractor for the 1 building, whilst the painting was entrusted to Mr J. T. Wright,_ the polishing to Messrs Scoullar and Chisholm, and the plumbing to Messrs J. and R. Scott.
