• (Fh United Press Association.) MASTERTON, February 19. The Masf'.rton agricultural show w&S opened to-day in fine weather. Thero were 1685 entries, or 31 lees than last year. Horses showed tlio greatest doeroaso, but many other classes showed a substantial increase. 'Tho entries for the sporting events total 161, and in tho champion jump 21 of the best hurdlers in tho North Island liavo been nominated. Mr G. F. More secured first and champion for purebred Hereford bull calved since July 1, 1904-, also for purebred Hereford cow, any age, in calf or with calf at foot. * For Lincoln ram under 21 months the champion, first, second, and third prizes wore securcd by Mr H. 0. William Perry. For purebred shorthorn, bull, calved since July 1, 1904, tho trustees of tho lato D. M'Mastor scoured first and champion, and for shorthorn cow, any age, in calf\or with calf at foot, Mr C. F, Vallance got first and champion. Messrs Slack Bros, obtained first and champion for Ayrshire bull calved since July 1, 1904, also for heifer calved sidco July'l, 1905. Mr S. K. Lancaster secured first and champion for Jersey bull calved since July 1, 1905, anj also for cow, any ago, with calf at foot or in milk. In the Lincolm ram alasses Mr W. Porry swept the board, and took the championship for ram under 21 months. Mr Perry also securcd the championship for English Leicester ram and ewe; Tho following additional championships were awardedßorder Leicester ram and ewe, Messrs Slack Bros.: Romney Marsh ram and ewe, Mr E, Short: Southdown ram and owe, Mrs B. 11. Slack; Shropshire ram, Mr B. Seth-Smilh. Pigs: Berkshire Iwar and sow, Mr E. White; Tamworih boar and sow, Mr E. White; Yorkshire boar. Mr E. White; Yorkshire sow,. Mr A. Ritchie. The hunters' leaping matclr - was won by D. Noake's Mignon.
