AN EXTRAORDINARY STORY.

WAIIIOA, January 17. It. is reported that an old Maori chief named Whenuanui, who died recently at tho Wammko pa, was laid out on a sort. of trestle. The Natives built a sort of meat safe round the body and lowered it down into the ground, but it was blown up the day after. Tho smell at tho pa is awful. The Natives intend to keep the body until it is in eucli a state that they can scrape tho bones. The Ruatahuana Native* want to bury the body in three different places. The doccased had a magnificent collection of priceless mate arouiid turn.
