CRIMINAL STATISTICS.
The following are the criminal statistics for the Otajro police district for the year 1906, tho figures m parentheses indicating tho previous year's returns:-
Tolal.number of offences reported, 1769 (1(89); of theso 55 mates itml 4 females «« committed Tor trial, 1237 males and 157 females were summarily convicted, and 118 males and 10 females wore discharged. Of those committed for trial 33 males and 1 female wore convicted. The total decrease on thn previous year for all dcwriiitions of oilcnues was 20.
Tlie most serious charges were im follow:—Common assault, 48 reported, 81 summarily convicted. 16 discharged; indecent nssault, 4 reported. 3 apprehended, I.convicted; broach of the peace, 82 reported, 79 arrested or summoned, 08 summ:\rily convicted, 13 discharged: biirglnrr 41_ reported (65), 24 arrested, 19 com' mittod for trial. 4 summarily convicted, 9 convicted at tho Supremo Court. 3 discharged; drunlu-iinoss, 724 cases reported (696). 629 _ molus 94 females summarily convicted, increase, on last year 2iJ; manslaughter, 2 reported, 2 L-ODimitted 'or trial, no convictions; murder, 1 reported, 1 committed for trial (to bo tried); neglected or criminal children. U reported (50), 51 convicted; obscene language, 77 reported, 62 summarily convicted, U discharged-,™ tncreaso of 11 on the provious year; obstructing the nolice. US reported, 21 convicted, 2 discharged—an Increase of 12; opium smoking, 5 reported (19) 2 convicted; sly grog-selling, 23 (22). 5 men and 8 women summarily convicted, 5 men and 2 women discharged; thoi't, 192 ,-e----ported, 89 arrested or summoned, 9 committed for trial, 65 .a;ales and 3 females summarily convicted, IS jialua discharged, 4 males convicted at the Supreme Court— a decrease of 2 on tho previous year; theft from dwelling, 27 rejwried (44), 12 apprehended, 11 suminarilj convicted, 1 discharged; theft from ]>ersun, !J raportod" (13), 4 apprehended, 3 committed for trial, 1 summarily convicted: vagrancy, 42 reported (55), 42 apprehensions, 24 "males and 16 females convicted, 2 males discharged—a decrease- of 13 on tho previous year.
