HARBOUR BOARD ENDOWMENUTS.
Tho following resolution was passed by the Middlemarch Branch of the Farmers' Union:—" That, in the opinion of this meeting, the action of (he Railway Department in- taking the land from tho Otago Harbour Board without adequate eompensa-< tion is unjust, and that this meeting enters■it* strongest urotcst against such action." The following motion was passed at last night's meeting of the Mornington Borough Council in response to tho circular lottor received from the secretary of the' Otago Harbour Hoard in reward to the Railway Department's apnropriation of the board's endowments:—"That' this council support tite'Harbour Board and use every endeavour to further tho object of proservins the approach to tho harbour and the interests of the general public." The poti- ' tion that was in the hands of the Mayor was stated to contain the full complement ,of signatures, while others aro in an advanced stairo towards that desired end.
A copy of the netition, which it is proposed to have signed and presented to the House in connection with tho taking of the Harbour Board's _ endowments by the .Government for railway purposes, was received at last evening's meeting of the St. Kilda Council. On the motion, of Cr Gore, tho followinff re.=o'ntion was carried unanimously:—"That this council is in entire sympathy with the Harbour Board in its endeavour to obtain its just rights."
