BOWLING.
The annual meeting of the Balclutlia Bowling Club was held in the Borough Chambers tail wool;, when there was a good attendance of members, Mr 11. Gunthojp (vice-president) occupying the chair. 'J ho report and balance shoot, read by the secretary (Mr Greuncy), showed that the club lmd a fairly sitcccfcjful season, playing 14 matches, winning 6, losing 6, drawing 1, and one having to bo stopped through rain. were made by tho club to Duiiedin, Hilton, ICaitangata, Stirling, and Clinton._ St. Kilda also played Balcliilha at Stirling, and Lawrence'and Balelntha played oii (it Milton. During the season Air M'Lnrty; of South Africa, vury kindlv delivered a lecture on South Africa in aid of tho funds of tlio Bowling and Tennis Clubs., Tho balance sheet, showed n credit balance of £14 Bs. The election of officebearers for tho ensuing season resulted as follows .--President, Mr 1(. Dunn; vicepresidents—Messrs If. Gunthorp (re-elected) and J. Fritish; treasurer, Mr \V. Guest (re-elected); secretary, Mr P. J. Greaney (ro-elect'id.l; General Committee—-Messrs W. Finn, J. Steven, and A. It. Jack; Match Committee—President, aud Mews Finn,and Fruish; delegates to New Zealand Bowling Association—Messrs J G Bentley and G. Morris (Dune-din). Tlio prizes won during the peason wero prcscnted as follows:— President's (Mr A. It, Jack) prize, won by Mr James M'Namara] a handsome pair of silver-mounted bowls',, suitably inscribed; vice-president's (Mr R." Dunn) prize, won by Sir 11. Gunthorp, pair of bowls; vice-president's (Mr If. Gunthorp) prize, won by Mr O. Fniish', pair of howls. It was decided that the committee l:o instructed not to liavo intoxicating liquor on tlio ground at any of its matches. Subscriptions were fixed, as formerly, nt fil for members and 12s 6d for now members. The selection of suitable colours for tlio club and the opening day was left in the hands of tlio committee. Votes of thanks to past officers, also to Messrs Jack and Guest, and to the Borough Council for the use of a room, terminated a very successful meeting. Mr Gunthorp, in returning thanks for his election as a vice-president, -aid a high compliment to tho game, lie believed, he said, that bowling was the Iwst game going, lie had played, and still plaved. a ot of different games, but lie really believed bowling was tho best of them all. lhe club had a big season in front of it, including taking part in the Christchurch Exhibition tournament, and he could say with confidence that they had one of the best clubs this side of Dunedin, but their green was not quite up to the mark, and would liavo to be improved a groat deal, He thought it was rather a disgrace to a country town not to bo able to provide turf as good as that of the large towns. '
