THE ALHAMBRA,

The attendance at the Alhambrn Theatre on Saturday evening was large indeed, and long before So clock the' management had perforce to turn money away. Amongst the others appearing were Miss Pearl. Lovell (a ?' ro "? favourite), Les Warton (coon singer), lliyllis 1' ay, and Bob Lloyd. The animated pictures wore again of a. most interesting and. at times, diverting nature, and ba,ve now come to bo recognised as one of the most pleasing features of an altogether pleasing bill. THE OAUJIONT CIIItOKOPHOKE. On Monday, 17th inst., at His Majesty's, the Stonhani-Jlorrison Company will present for the first time in this town the much-talked-of Gauniont Chronophone, the only talking machine ever brought to the colonies. The machine is a' mo'dt ingenious contrivance. The chrono, or picture-projecting portion of the machine, ia connected hv elec° trieity, to tho cyclopbone!. portion. The two machine^.—viz.,- the chrono and cyciopboiie, when linked together, become one machine— the chronoplione. The chrono is fitted with three electric motors—No. 1 for projecting tho ordinary chrono films, No, 2 runs the cycloplione, and No. :i runs the chronophone which produces these living pictures that- sing, talk, laugh, and whistle, while the fourth motor is used for synchronising and altering the speed of the chronophone. This is necessary, as some of the operatic songs require to bo produced quicker than the monologue or whistling songs. The company »!eo" show some remarkably fine views of the Klberfeld ovcrheud railway, "The Dangerous Golfers," Mixed Bathing," and several others..

Mr 11. T. Trego ski. the advance representsfive for the Slecle-Payne Entertainers and" Bellringers. is nt present in Dunedin arranging for the company's appearance at the Princess Theatre. Ho reports splendid business through Scotland, the company being greeted everywhere with crowded and cnlhu9iastie audiences.
