CATHOLICS AND THE LATE PREMIER.
TO THK EHITDJI. Sin,-With thousands of others I looV tho opportunity of paying t}ie last tribute of respect of our late highly-esteemed Premier last Thursday in tho Garrison Hall, Invercargill, and greatly appreciated the well-chosen remarks that' fell from (lie different clergy assembled there, who one and all gave laudatory utterances, upholding the exceptional qualifications of our late chief. ICnglisb. Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Baplist, and other sects wore, ably represented, but tho question was freely asked— "\\ here is the Catholic representative?" It was a case of " Noil est" (nowhere to bo found), while, at (he same hour in Duncdin, the He v. Father Cofl'ey was addressing a huge gathering in St. Joseph's Cathedral Grounds. Now, the question is, are our Invercargill Catholics retaining their- energy for a grand reception to Sir Jospeh Ward, fresh from Rome, to such an extent as to consider tho last tribute to our lato beloved chicf of no concern,—l am etc., Could Wf.
