MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

At last meeting oi the Lily of the Valley Ledge, U.A.0.D.. a large attendance was present. Tho business, which w«s dealt with expeditiously by the A.D., Bro. Davis, who was surrounded by a number of visiting members. Tho Grand Secretary reported that only ono death bad occurred during the quarter, which fact kept the finances of the order in the same satisfactory condition as they had been for some time past. An invitation was accepted from the Ravensbourne Lodge to be present at their next meeting to witness tho installation of the incoming district president and presentation to the rclii> iug Arch Druid. Upon adjourning for a musical evening a programme of good quality was presented by Bros. Korman, Townsend, Eutler, Ford, Davis, and Easton. A novel and instructive item was contributed by Bro. Ford, jim., who delivered a short, address upon '"Personal Magnetism," giving short instructions on the selfcure of illnesses, accompanied by practical illustrations. The lodge has accepted his offer to deliver another and fuller address on the same subject at a future date. At the previous meeting the P.G.P., Bro. Bryant, presented Bro. Crawford with a Past Arch certificate, his three years' term as secretary entitling him to such. Bro. Bryant remarked that the enormous amount of work accomplished, together with ability shown, fully entitled the recipient to the honour. Bro. Crawford suitably replied. Bro. Mitchell having been elected to the position of Grand Vice-president of Otago. the lodge expressed its congratulations, Bro'. Mitchell remarking that the honour was not so much personal, as showing the confidence the Grand Lodge placed in the Lily of the Valley Lodge. i'he usual fortnightly mesting of the Loyal Cavers-ham liodgc, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held on Wednesday evening. Jf.G. Bro. J. R. Marshall presiding. Two new members were initiated and another candidate proposed. P.P.G.M. Bro. Wilson. P.O. Bro. Lawry, N.O. Bro. Atarsiißil, and E.S. Bro. Christie were appointed delegate to the annual district meeting The lodge then went into harmony and an enjoyable? programme arranged by tlio Loyal A'alley Lodge was gone through. Songs were contributed by P.G. Bro. Brown, A T .G. Bro. Tryell, Per. Sec. P.G. Bro. Jfunro, P G. Bro. Millier (Valley), Pro. fi.JI. Bro Tieid, and P.P.G.M. Bro. Broadfoot (district), and P.O. Bro. Hill, Warden Bro. Cole, Bro. Rearms and T.G. Bro; Gray (Caversham); recitations were given by Brc. Stewart. G.M. lloberts, and a comic reading by Warden Bro. Button (Valley). P.G. Bro. Head played the various accompaniments. On the motion of P.G. Bro. Head a very hearty vole of thanks was passed to the performers. N.G. Bro. Tryell (Valley), P.G. Bro. Doig (Addington), Bro! M'Keil (Albion), and P.G. Bro. Lyons (Hand and Heart) responded on behalf of their respective lodges to the toast ot the xmtiv brethren. Pro. G.Jt. Bro. W. E. C. Keic] and P.P.G.M. Bro. Broadfoot replied to that of the district. Next lodge night the programme is supplied bv the Loyal Prince of Wales Lodge (Port Chalmers).
