OLUTHA PRESBYTERY

The Presbytery of Clutha met at Milton on Wednesday last, when the following members were present—viz.: Mr Chisholm (Moderator pro tcm.) and Messrs S, W. Currie, Dalrymplc, t'rascr. Miller, Blair, Millor, Chisholm, Or, and W. T. Currio (ministers', and Messr.s M'Hattie, J. M'Caw, Kilgour, Tobin, Anderson, Tavlor, M'Lean, Mitchell, and Menzies (ciders). Messrs .Allan, Reid. Ramsay, and Macallister wrote stating their inability to attend.

Mr On- was elected Moderator for tho ensuing six months. Mr M'Caw reported re Beaumont glebe, when it was agreed fo take4)io matter up next Presbytery. /'ill It was agreed that thiHSfSmmittce appointed to visit the Milton* congregation should report to the next meeting of tho Presbytery.

Mr Frascr, on behalf of the committeeappointed to visit Waihela, gave in the report, whieli was received and the committee thanked for its work. Fuller consideration was deferred till next meeting.

Mr Dalrymplc reported Te Glenomaru that Mr M'fjKin had taken Mr Weir's place.

Mr Chisholm reported ro llatanui.—lt was agreed that Mr Blair conduct communion services at Tahakopa. and Ghaskmds on Sunday, 25th inst.. Mr Taylor ?g--oing to provide supply for Clinton on that day.

The Clerk laid on the table the resigna-. tion of Mr John M'Caw, homo missionary, of Tuapeka West.—lt was agreed to accept the resignation, and on the motion of Mr Fraser, seconded by Mr Dalrymplc. the following motion was agreed to—"That the Presbytery place on record an expression of its very high appreciation of the services of Mr John M'Caw, for 13 years in the wide district of Tuapolta. West, during which time he has done most faithful and profitable service, a record of which has been repeatedly placed on the Presbytery, minutes. The Presbytery, in receiving Mr M'Caw's resignation, cordially recommend him to the Wanganui Presbytery and the people of his new and important sphere of labour, and pray that the divine blessing may accompany himself and family. A copy to be sent to Wanganui Presbytery." Lo Beaumont, it was agreed to reappoint Mr Adams for a term of three months from tho end of April. The Cleric reported that the Sustcnlation Fund Committee had fixed tho following minima for aid-roceivine congregations: — Lovcll's Plat, £175: Clutha. £170; Owaka, £180; Milburn, £185; Wnihola, £170, for tho current year, Popolunoa was raised to the self-sustaining platform. In connection with this matter a letter was received from Popotunoa. Kirk Session objecting lo its assessment, and asking tho Presbytery to endeavour to got the Sustentation Fund Committee to reduce the amount to £185, the amount fixed by tho Presbytery.—On the motion of Mr llalrymple, seconded by Mr Curric, it was agreed, after considerable discussion, to aop'.v to the committee in terms of this request. The records of Tokomairiro Session, and the record of the session of Deacons' Qourt, Milburn, were examined, and reported well and regularly kept, and as such signed by the moderator.,

It was agreed that Messrs Ramsay and M'Kinlay "inspect tho Kaitangata Church ro the question of repairs, and report, to the next meeting. Messrs Tobin and Blair wore to make a similar report on Purckireki, and Mr Fraser on Hillend.

Mr Chisholm gave notice of the following for next meeting:—"That tho Presbytery meet for ordinary business on Friday instead of 'Wednesday, and that the meetings be held evcrv two months."

Tho Rev. S. TV. Ctirric, convener of tho committee appointed to visit Clutha congregation, gave in the reiwrt of the committee.—Oil tho motion of Mr Miller it was agreed to adopt the report and thank tho committee, and to appoint the Rev. Mr Currie to preach in Port Moiyneux and Puerua on Sabbath, the 25th inst., and to bring the report and tho Presbytery's finding before the congregation.

It was agreed to appoint tho Revs. Miller, Eoid, and Fraser, and Messrs Sutherland and R. M'Caw to visit Lawrence during the ensuing three month?, and to report to next Presbytery.
