DUNEDIN v. PORT NAVAKS. t T')io annual match between the Dunedin Aa\als and the Port Chalmers Navals was fired on Saturday, 'l'he first tennis fired at Pork and the second teams at Dunedin. The conditions for the first teams \rtre 1U shots at itOO and 500 yards. As the shooting went on at the Port range it was seen tlmt it would not bo possible to finish, and after five men i hud fired at 300 yards it was decided to alter tlio conditions to seven shots instead ot ten. As it was, the last couple were shooting at 5.45, and practically in darkness. As will be seen by the scores, the visitors won by 2 points. The Port men had the match well in hand tili tho last two men lay down. The local iurii did not find the target till his fifth shot, whereas P.O. Morrison put on 30, firing almost in darkness—so dark that the scorers had to use field-classes to see what tho markers were' marking. At the conclusion ot the'match Captain Dodds, in a short speech, complimented the visitors on their wiu, as lie believed that this was the first time his team had been beaten on their own range, both teams firing under the same conditions, and concluded by inviting the visitors to dinner at Mrs Furk's Masonic Hotel. Captain I'redric said he was very pleased indeed to be on the winning side, and thanked Captain Dodds for the way the Port team had treated his men during the afternoon, and for their invitation to dinner.
