(Br Oiin SraiAii Reporter.) Februarj 11. 'The ahnual show df the Tapanlii I-lorti-eultural Soeicty wns opened in the Town Ha!!, Tapanui, 011 Saturday afternoon. The weather was perfect, anc! there was a very large attendance both in the afternoon and overling. The entries this year were not as large as' they, have previously bfieh. Besides border plant? and pot plants there were 6cetions for fruit, vegetables, and produce, also special competitions for school.children. This year for the first time. an industrial sectioii, comprising competitions in fretwork. wood-carving, photography, painting, and drawing, was introduced, anil was, both in this number of entries and in the quality of the work shown, eminently successful. Two of the most intei'estifig features of the filiow were displays of various pot plants, one collection being exhibited by Messrs Howden and Moncrieff, Duncdin, and the other by Mr H. W. West, also of Dunedin, thb plants being offered for sale. The section for best decorated tables ; brought but several competitors, and all the efforts were highly praiseworthy, the winnet's table, by Miss Callonder, being nio3t tastefully Ucodrated with yellow ind white Icelan'tl poppies. Tlioiigli the eiitribs for most of till sections wore somewl!a.i. smaller than in previous years, there \Vas a considerable increase in those for the small fruit competitions, and for jarris and jellies.
