WELLINGTON, February 5. | Figures relating to the number of slice, and lambs killed by tho various slaughter houses and freezing companies 'of the colon} in 1904 have been supplied to the Department of Industries and Commerce b,. Mr Eichelbauin, general manager for New Zealand of Messrs Oppcnlieimer and Co., o New York. The number of sheep killed ii, tho South Island was 662,156, tho chief con tribiitors to this number being: Timaru 165,852; Islington, 131,630; Belfast, 86,557; Ashburton, 77,065; and Wallacetown, 44,254 The total shows a remarkable drop froiv the figures in 1903, when 1,076,151 sheej were slaughtered. The lambs killed in tlx South Island number 1,498,593, as against 1,664,535 in 1903. Of this year's total Isling ton contributed 357,440, Timaru 317,849 Belfast 222,931, and Ashburton 212,222; the fonr Cantcrlrury companies thus accounting for 73 per cent, of the total. In the North Island 1.474,263 sheep were killed (a decrease of 320,852 on the 1903 figures), of which the Gear Company accounts for 371,825; (lie Wollington Meat Export Company 350,645, Nelson Bros. (Tomoana) 194,132, * fiishome Freezing Works 156,241, and Nelson Bros. (Gisborno) 126,297 being next. In the North Island 629,304 lambs were killed, tho leading figures being: Wellington Meat Export Company, 176,563; (Jear Company, 139.457; and Nelson Bros. (Tomoana), 91,075. Lamli9 show a decrease of 84,676 for tho whole island. The total sheep killed for the whole colony is 2,160,749, and lambs 2,103,567 being decreases of 579,937 and 405,528 respectively when compared with the totals for 1903.
