ROUND THIS WORLD ON A MOTOR CAR.
Mr Charles J. Olidden, who is making a tour of tho world on a motor ear, accompanied by Mrs (Hidden, reached Dunedin on January 29 from Timaru, which was his last stopping place. The visitors-were mot some little distance bevond the Upper Junction by a party of motorists'" from Dunedin, and wore escorted by them to the city. Mr (iliddcn infeuds-t.o spend only one day in Dunedin, and proceeds on his way south to-morrow morning. Ho visits Lakes To Anau and Mamipouri, taking four days over tho trip, and leaves the Bluff on the 6th February for Tasmania, whonce ho goes to South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. Ho then proceeds to .lava nnd the Malay Peninsula, and, leaving tlio motor at Bombay, goes home to Boston, resuming his tour again in December. He then traverses Burmab, Ceylon, the Philippines, a.nd Japan, where his travels will bo broken for another spoil. Resuming in the following December, he visits Portugal, Spain,' Algeria, Tunis, Tripoli, Sicily, and Egypt, and completes his trip, during which lie anticipates he will have covered al»ut 40,000 miles. To cover this distance will have taken , six months in each ot seven oonsecutivo years. Mr Glidden has so far accomplished a, distance of 21.273 miles, and of this over 1200 have been driven in Now Zealand. He has' passed through over 6000 oifcios and, towris, and is wry .favourably impressed with Dunedin. Mr" Glidden is also accompanied by his engineer. Mr Charles Thomas, of .London. Mr Charles .T. Glidden, the millionaire motorist, returned to Invcreargill on February 4 after a visit to Lakes To Anau 'and Manapouri. This journey was not done in the motor, but has to bo regarded aA an " extra," Mr and Mrs G'.idden being very Anxious not to miss seeing for themselves tlio beauties of lakes about which they had heard so much. Mr Glidden dcfcribes Lake Manapouri, as the finest ho has seen anywhere; it combines the grandeur of Switzerland and Norway in . such a way . as to provide a.climax of beauty..
