SWIMMING, Smooth water arid bright sunshine were conditions entirely favourable for tho swimming off on Saturday afternoon at St. Clair Baths of tho events arranged for by the Otago Swimming Club. There was a fair attendance, including a large sprinkling of schoolboys, and after the racing the baths presented an animated appearance, an impromptu polo scramble proving highly diverting. The 50 Yards Boys' Championship promised, to be an interesting competition, 14 entries, representing George Street, Union Street, Forbury, and Industrial Schools, having been ' received. Only three competitors, however, faced the starter. Dawson, a sparely-built lad ■ from Union Street School, with a neat, quick stroke, won rather easily from Sullivan (In- I dnstrial School) and Sims (Forbury School), j The winner having crossed Sullivan's track, however, these two swam the distance again, Dawson winning comfortably in 3Gsec—oniy ' lsec worse than the time occupied by the winner in the seniors* event.
