INGREDIENTS IN MEDICINES

THE NEW REGULATIONS. The following are the regulations published in'the Gazette under "The Public Health Act, 39.10": — 1. All patent medicines imported into or sold or offered for sale in the rolony shall ho required to have tho contents, with their exact proportions, legibly set out in English upon a label affixed on the bottle, box. or container. In addition to such information, where such medicines contain one or more oi the poii'ons scheduled under " The Sale of Poisons Act, ]571," and its amendments, the words ""this contains poison ' must be marked in e'enr, medium-sized block type upon-the label. 2. For tho purposes of these regulations the Icrm "patent medicines" includes, inter alia: Allenbiiry's pastilles, Ayer's pills, Ashton and Parsons's phospherine, Ayer's cherry pectoral, Allen's lung balsam, Atkinson's infants' preservative, iiiitcxema, Ayer's sarsaparilla, Allenbiiry's bynim aware, do bynim liquid malt, do "byuo giycelo phosphites, do byno hypophosphites, do byno phosphites, Angler's emulsion, do throat tablets. Bark's pastilles, Uengcr's liq. peptoris, bile beans, Bate's salve, Barraclough's magic nervine, do progaudra, Btown's chloro- • dyne, Bcccham's pills, do cough pills, Baxter's anti-neuralgic pills, do comp. quinine pills, do lung preservative, Benger's liquor pepticus, do liquor pancreaticus, Brandretli's pills, Brown's troches, bromo-qmninc tablets, Jionnington's Irish moss, do liver pills, do headache wafers, heujimin gum. 3. Any person who commits ei breach of or fails to comply with any of the foregoing regulations shall be liablo on conviction to a penalty not exceeding £50.
