COURSING.

DUtfEDIN COURSING CLUB. A well-attended meeting of the Dunedin Coursing Club was held at tho Gladstjno Hotel last evening, Mr J. C. Abernethy (vice-presi-dent) in the chair. The Hare and Ground Committee reported, inter alia, that 103 liares had been landed on the ground. The boisterous weather of tho past week had interfered somewhat with their training; otlierwiso they are fit and strong. Profiting by past experience, they lad engaged a night watchman to patrol the enclosure from sunset to suurise, in order to preserve tho stock from tho depredations of poachers. Proceedings against poachers of the last slock of hares had been held in abeyance oil account of tho absence from town of Mr James (of Messrs Siovwright and James), but ho had now been instructed to institute proceedings at once. The result will doubtless be looked forward to with great interest by the friends of coursing. Consider-' able alterations have been effected in tho escapes—all in favour, of the hares,—such as doing away with nearly all the pipe escapes and substituting therefor an almost unbroken ingress by cutting away tho foot of the escapo fence, and to prevent egress tho opening ig controlled by flaps within, worked by pulleva at the will of the man ill charge. To supplement this a maze of brushwood has been erected 20ft in front o£ the fence. The pad-' docks by the chute have been padded with straw and scrimmed over, while tho cliuta itself has been boarded along its full length, so that the hounds while in leash will be unabla to see puss until she has made her debut in the open. The secretary was instructed to advertise tho draw to take place on. Monday, 13th inst., at the Carlton. Diniug Rooms, at 8 p.m. Apologies for 11011 attendanco wero received from Messrs Cuttle. Lethaby, .Curscy, and 'Wynne on accouut of sickness.
