Information has been received in Dunedin .that Lieutenant G. Gain, a inem'oer cf tho First and Seventh New Zealand Contingents, died recently at Rhodesia, South Africa. The. deceased gentleman, who was a, very popular officer iu the 'Seventh Contingent, decided to remain in South Africa when that contingent went there, his intention being to engage in mining pursuits, which he bad previously followed at Coromandel.

Latest letters from Mr Jas. Allen, 11. H.R. (says the Bruce Herald), state that he was to loavo Liverpool for New Zealand by the Miowera on May i, Vancouver May 27, arriving at Sydney about June 21.
