Stowaways.—Charles Preston and Henry I Drako wcro charged with secreting themselves on board the steamship Waimate, nt London, contrary io section ]40 of tho Seamen's Shipping Act.—Sergeant Geerin informed the bench that .tho' accused had been arrested on board the ves3ol on her arrival stt Port Chalmers on Thursday afternoon. They had been found secreted in the coal bunkers after the vessel left London on April 12.-H. G. H. Davis, chief officer ol .the Waimate, stated that accusid were supposed to have got on board the vessel in London on April 10. They wero found two days afterwards when the ship was about -200 miles at sea. The men had no authority to be or, board. The cost of the passage money was illS each.—ln-reply to the' bsncli, the witness stated that the men had behaved well during the passage, and did a certain amount oi work, but not the same as though they were on the ship's articles.—The Bench ordered each of the accused to pay a line of £10, or, in default, to 1)0 imprisoned, with hard labour, for one month. :-,.'■
