(Fkom Our. Owx Corrkstoxdekt.) GREYMOUTH, .Tune 3. The mail conch crowing the Grey River at Ngalioro got upset in a by-wash, ■ and the passengers were with difficulty rescued on horseback. The Grey River is scouring inlo the road and railway between the tunnel and Stillwater, and tho position is rapidly becoming a dangeroHis one. To- protect and render it safe for traffic will involve the expendi- • ture of a good deal of money.' It was this i particular spot that members, of the lato Harbour Board deemed necessary, along i with its engineer, to inspect and report on to the Government, tho railway, as well • as the hoard's property, being then in i danger. Their report at' tho time wns i "pooh-poohed" by tho local-authorities aim the Government, the expenditure of £4- 4s by the board in connootr'on therewith being one of the "serious" charges'. preferred by the Government against-members. $fad the Government then taken tho- advice of tho board the railway and road might have been' protected by tho expenditure of a few pounds. Tho opportunity, however, was neglected, the warning ridiculed, and ■ now to secure the position will' mean an J expenditure of at least £1000. . (
