FIGHTING NORTH OF PORT ARTHUR.
A RUSSIAN ACCOUNT.
LONDON, Juno 1. (Received June 1, at II.C p.m.) The Russian General Staff report that Uic lliissiiin cavalry on tlip 30th attacked n considerable Japanese force at Vagenfau, 70 miles north of Port Arthur, almost annihilating the Japanese. A squadron of cavalry also attacked the infantry, retiring when confronted with machine guns. ■ An attempt to outflank the Hussions was stopped hy artillery. The Russian casualties were one officer and 21 men. The Japanese loss was considerable.
